The Evolution of Polymorphic Compatibility Molecules

چکیده

Several primitive colonial organisms distinguish self from nonself by means of polymorphic compatibility molecules bearing similarity to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The evolution of such polymorphisms is generally explained in terms of resistance to parasites. Ignoring parasites, I develop two mathematical models. One model is inspired by slime mold aggregation. The other is a caricature. The results show that parasites are not required to explain polymorphisms. The fact that allorecognition allows organisms to maintain their “genetic identity” (e.g., to preserve evolved adaptations) suffices for the evolution of polymorphisms. The degree of polymorphism that ultimately evolves is equal to the diversity of phenotypes in the population. In these models I consider “cells” growing in particular environments. The “genotype” of a cell codes for an “ecological preference,” which determines the growth rate of the cell in the environment, and for a “compatibility molecule.” Cells expressing the same compatibility molecule form one “colony.” Thus, colonies may be chime& with respect to the ecological preferences. The reproduction rate of each cell in a colony is weighted by the colony’s composition of ecological preferences. These conditions turn out to be sufficient for the evolution of polymorphic compatibility molecules.

P-157: Polymorphic Core Promoter GA-repeats Alter Gene Expression of The Early Embryonic Developmental Genes

Background: We examine the GA-repeat core promoters of MECOM and GABRA3 in human embryonic kidney-293 cell line and show that those GA-repeats have promoter activity, and those different alleles of the repeats can significantly alter gene expression. We propose a novel role for GA-repeat core promoters to regulate gene expression in the genes involved in development and evolution. Materials and M...

Notability of Substantive Elements of Economics, in Groundwork of Evolution of Economic Thought

This paper is investigating that:" resurging evolution of economic thought, EET, is brilliantly in direction with eminence of substantive elements of economics itself". It presupposes that the substantive elements of economics embraces the following package: 1- maintaining on some epistemic doctrines, including rationality, efficiency and equilibrium.2-dynamic characteristic of economic theorie...

Unusual Evolution of Plexiform Neurofibroma in the Scalp: A Case Report

The neurofibromatosis is a frequent and polymorphic genetic disorder. The severity is related to the complications. The degeneration of neurofibroma is a very rare complication of neurofibromatosis. In the literature, a few cases of solitary neurofibroma, which turned into a malignant tumor were reported. In our case, we described a very rare clinical case of neurofibrosarcoma in the scalp, and...

Can the Decreased Expression of Human Leukocyte Antigen Class Ⅰ and Ⅱ by Spermatozoa Lead to Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion?

Background & Objective: Unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) is defined as an unknown cause of occurrence of three or more clinically detectable pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of gestation, but it occurs presumably as a result of the immune system dysfunctions. We supposed that the disruption of semen or spermatozoa might be responsible for the dysfunction of the...

Evidence that CD31, CD49b, and CD62L are immunodominant minor histocompatibility antigens in HLA identical sibling bone marrow transplants.

Despite complete matching of siblings for the HLA loci, after bone marrow transplantation (BMT), approximately 20% develop graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). This is presumably due to incompatibility of minor histocompatibility antigens (mHa). We investigated the polymorphisms of 14 adhesion molecules (CD2, CD28, CD31, CD34, CD36, CD42, CD44, CD48, CD49b, CD54, CD62L, CD86, CD102, and CD106) in ...
